1916 memorial for Tallaght village

Tallaght village  is to get a 1916 memorial after Sinn Féin councillors  Cathal King and Máire Devine successfully proposed a motion at last month’s Council meeting with regards to erecting a fitting memorial to the men and women of 1916 in time for the 2016 centenary.

The motion instructed the Council Officials to imaginatively investigate the eyesore that is the “Esso site” for possible situation of the memorial – To create a passive recreation area in the heart of Tallaght Village. It would become the focal point for a Tidy Towns initiative with many uses including pop-up markets, gatherings, workshops etc.

Councillor Devine is a member of the Environment Strategic Planning Committee and will enthusiastically progress this initiative.
